Initial Thoughts: My Life on the Road
Choosing a book to read for class is often the most difficult choice a student has to make over the course of a semester. I debated our three options and ultimately chose to ready My Life on the Road by Gloria Steinem. Steinem is a social activist that was a large part of the feminist movement in the 1960s. She did more than just advocate for the feminist movement, as she helped found the famous New York Magazine and the feminist Ms. Magazine. Her story all began during her childhood, as her family lived on the road, driving cross country just to make a living.
There’s nothing more inspiring than someone who makes it their goal to preach what they believe in. Steinem is the perfect example of this, as she uses the road she traveled to explain the movement that shaped her life. She tells the story of her constant travels, that allowed for her to spread the feminist movement nationwide. As I embark on the journey of learning Steinem’s story, I hope to learn how she was able to revolutionize the fight for equality. Hopefully one day, I can use the strength Steinem possessed in order to fight for what I truly believe in.
